Woodworking – Chatoyance, vibrancy, ‘pop the grain’, shimmer effect
A small quick video showing the holographic effects sometimes seen in wood finishes. It has many names, 'chatoyance, vibrancy, popping the grain, shimmer, moire, glow' etc and is caused by the refraction of light into (yes into) the wood fibers. Jay Stratton — Woodworking Artist
Jay Stratton is an artist with wood, creating distinctive designs in furniture and scupture. He developed a technique for creating "smoke" and "ribbon" sculptures in wood and he does commission work ranging from reception areas and tables for offices to coffee tables for homes.
